Submit your short story to our blog and earn recognition (and maybe even money)!

Tuxtails Publishing is in the business of publishing full-length books, but we also love short stories. That is why we are dedicating all the space on this blog to writers who can tell their tale in 3000 words or less.
Each Thursday, we will publish a new short story submitted by a different author. This way, readers can get to know the author’s work, and the author has a chance to showcase their talent. Full author credit will be given, and you can include all of your social, Amazon, author site, or other links in a short bio that will appear at the end of your story.
Unlike with our book publishing, which will see authors earning competitive royalties starting in 2023, we can’t offer you a set payment/royalty rate for the time being. But we do accept donations via the PayPal “Donate” button in the footer of every story page, and we will encourage those who enjoy the stories on the blog to make a donation. If they include your name in the accompanying note, we will give you the 80% of the net profit from the donation (PayPal takes a small percentage itself). The rest goes toward helping us keep the website up and running.
Authors keep all rights to and ownership of their story.
Interested? Here’s a breakdown of the requirements:
- story must be between 500 and 3000 words long
- story must be complete (no excerpts or sample chapters)
- story must be your original work
- story can be in any fiction genre except erotica (this is a family blog, folks)
- no explicit sex scenes or an over-abundance of graphic violence (see above)
- story must not currently be published on your website or anywhere else (if you publish it in the future, please let us know, as this may violate the terms and conditions of some other websites and programs like KDP)
UPDATE: Poetry is also now accepted as well, as long as it is more than 100 words and follows the rest of the requirements listed above.
Last, and most importantly, please make sure you have proofread and edited your story thoroughly. If your story is great, we want to publish it, but we don’t want to have to spend extra time going back and forth with edits. If selected, we will publish your story as-is or with only very minor typographical corrections, so make sure it is something you can be proud of and that you want the world to see.
The stories that generate the most views, comments, and interest may be considered for an eventual short story collection published by Tuxtails Publishing, for which all authors will receive an equal share of the royalties.
If that all sounds fair to you, submit your stories to stories@tuxtailspublishing.com with “Short Story Submission” in the subject line. Please paste the story right into the email: do not add it as an attachment. If we choose your story for the blog, we will reach out and ask for an author bio to go with it and let you know the date of publication.
